Welcome to Pokesdown
Pokesdown is a lively suburb, famous for its antiquing, situated to the East of Boscombe and to the West of Southbourne.
Pokesdown is an excellent area for first time buyers, as properties here are less expensive than most other areas of Bournemouth, however buyers are in the enviable position of having the affluent area of Southbourne right on their doorstep. As such, the suburb is popular with families, students and young professionals.
Pokesdown is well known for its vintage, retro and antique shops, and as such is a great place to find a bargain. The high street adjoins Boscombe high street by a crossing – so there’s no shortage of shops, restaurants and amenities like hairdressers, beauticians and pharmacists.
Pokesdown has excellent transport links. More and Yellow buses run a regular service into Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, and Pokesdown is fortunate enough to have its own train station on the London line. Residents have excellent public transport here – but the area itself is very well situated, in walking distance to the Blue Flag Southbourne Beaches, Fisherman’s Walk and Alum Chine.
Pokesdown Community Primary School is local to the area, as is the Bournemouth Collegiate School, making it an excellent area for education, and Bournemouth hospital is a ten minute bus ride away.
Kings Park and Kings Park Athletics Stadium are situated directly behind the train station, with the Vitality football stadium close by, so it’s a fantastic district for those who like to keep active.
Welcome to Boscombe East
Boscombe East is a small, lively suburban area spanning from Boscombe Pier to Iford. It is a short walk away from the affluent and attractive area of Southbourne, and as such is a fantastic place to buy – as properties here are somewhat less expensive, but still have access to fantastic facilities.
There is a clear divide in properties in Boscombe East – north of Christchurch Road is mostly semi-detached houses and to the south is predominantly detached housing – meaning the area has a lot of choice for buyers looking for a family home.
Boscombe East is a short walk away from Boscombe Pier and the beautiful sandy beach next door. The seafront boasts mini golf, restaurants, pubs and a small convenience store – perfect for a day at the beach!
Just next door you’ll find Pokesdown train station – which is on the London line – making transport links excellent in this area. You’ll find fantastic bus links, supplied by More and Yellow buses, with services running frequently into the town centre.
Boscombe East is dominated by the Boscombe shopping centre (The Sovereign Centre). Residents will have all the local amenities they need on their doorstep – the centre features a supermarket, shops and a food court, and backs on to Boscombe High Street. Here you’ll find more restaurants and shops, as well as a large Aldi. Local gem Boscanova is not to be missed – this trendy pancake house is a favourite with the locals.
Shelley Manor is a large GP surgery, on the border between Boscombe and Boscombe East. Next door to the medical centre is the adorable Shelley Theatre – a small theatre that hosts performances and community events – something for everyone!
