West Wing was formally a RAF commanding officers residence that was converted in the 1990's. Within a stones throw of a shingled beach that houses many beach huts and the Bluebird Cafe the spit also features the original RAF hangars that have now been converted in to a velodrome, climbing walls and ski slope. There's also a abundance of water sports that takes place at Calshot including sea kayaking, wind surfing and paddleboarding. There is usually space for boat storage aswell as the public slipway with the RNLI and HM coastguard having stations too. Calshot Castle stands proud and was built by Henry V111 for the French and Roman invasions which is open to the general public. The New Forest National Park is also on the door step providing walking and cycling in beautiful surroundings. Nearby are the picturesque towns on Lymington, Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Hythe along with the infamous Beaulieu Village with it's motor museum. From 1912-1935 RAF Calshot was an active flying boat station and was the site for the famous Schneider Trophy. It was only a few years ago that one of the tree's that was used as a marker post by the competitors was finally felled. The site was then closed in 1961.
